Binding (Pforz Copy 1): Original bright blue cloth, gilt spine titling, rules, and device, gilt titling, rule borders, and vignette (ill. from p. 3) on upper cover, gilt edges, dark brown endpapers. Originally issued with light blue dust jacket (now missing).
Binding (Pforz Copy 2): Dark green morocco, bound by Birdsall, gilt spine titling and decorations, gilt decorative cover borders and turn-ins, top edge gilt, dark green endpapers. -- Embossed stamp on recto of frontispiece: with the publisher's compliments; Charles Smith, Oct. 1918.
Binding (Pforz Copy 3): Plain dark blue buckram, uncut. -- H. Buxton Forman's copy with two bookplates, his pencilled initials (dated 1876) and an inked note (dated April 10, 1897). explaining the anomalous uncut edges. A laid-in note from Arthur Hughes to Forman (dated April 7, 1886) is missing.
