- Summary
- Francisco Moncion discusses his background and his decision to become a professional dancer. He describes the atmosphere at New York City Ballet when it was first founded, and discusses City Center's limitations as a performance space. Moncion discusses the New York City Ballet repertoire, audience responses, Jerome Robbins' Age of anxiety, Robbins' rehearsal process, and George Balanchine's reaction to Kurt Seligmann's costuming for Four temperaments. Moncion describes the spaciousness of the New York State Theater and its effect on the dancers, and reflects on possible reasons for audiences' lack of energy. He discusses the idea of a healthy repertoire, of dancers working outside New York City Ballet, and the future of New York City Ballet after Balanchine. Moncion concludes with a discussion of his own future plans.
