Summary
Martine van Hamel discusses working with new partners, particularly Alexander Godunov. She describes Godunov's performance style, and the challenges for both herself and Godunov of dancing Swan lake and Balanchine's Theme and variations. She shares her feelings about dancing a wide variety of roles; the evolution of ballet technique in recent years; her childhood travels; and early studies. She discusses the growth of audience interest in male ballet dancers; her perceptions upon watching dance concerts as a professional; and the effect of focusing one's energy on a single artistic pursuit. Van Hamel shares her thoughts about work she might do after her performing career ends; the need for great choreographers; dancers' love of Glen Tetley's choreography, and her own hopes for the future.
