• The work is based on a pamphlet entitled "Considerations on the society or order of Cincinnatus," issued in Philadelphia, 1783. It was signed "Cassius" and is supposed to have been written by Ædanus Burke.
• Two editions appeared in the year 1784. This is a reissue of the first (the London) edition of 1784, with a new title-page, the 1785 title being substituted but the text the same in both. This has the revised leaf of the Postscriptum based on the stub of the cancelled leaf, p. 101-102.
• Sébastien Roch Nicolas Chamfort is given as joint author by Quérard and Barbier.
• "Circular to the State Society of the Cincinnati, [signed] George Washington" : p. 134-181. Text given in French and English.
• "Lettre de M. Turgot ... à M. le Docteur Price": p. [183]-203.
• "Observations sur l'importance de la Révolution de l'Amérique ... par Richard Price": p. [205]-299. This is a translation of his Observations on the importance of the American revolution, and is followed by "Réflexions sur l'ouvrage précédent": p. [303]-385. These notes were largely the work of G. J. B. Target. Cf. Mémoires de Mirabeau, 1834-35, t. 4. p. 160.
