- Summary
- Cassette 1: Ms. Ramírez discusses her family background; her first impressions of New York at age six; and perceptions of the Hispanic community and dance culture during her childhood. She describes her first dance teacher, Lola Bravo, and escuela bolera; her ballet studies with Chester Hale; dancing with Federico Rey; recalls studying with Luisa Pericet in Madrid; performing with El Principe Gitano and his flamenco company; and her impressions of living in Spain. She remembers dance classes with Carmelita Maracci and with Alexandra Danilova; describes how she began to teach; and her school's project in the 1960's, Operation High Hopes.
- Cassette 2: Ms. Ramírez discusses the founding of Ballet Hispanico and her goals for the company. She speaks about dance companies that inspired her; milestones in the company's history; Graciela Daniele's recent work for the company, Cada noche tango; working with Ramón Oller and others who have choreographed for Ballet Hispanico. She discusses her philosophy for choosing choreographers and training dancers; recalls the acquisition of Ballet Hispanico's permanent home; and remembers dancers she worked with and roles in which they excelled.
