- Summary
- Karl Malden talks about his decision to pursue a film career after an initial success on the Broadway stage, working with director Elia Kazan, the film On the waterfront with Marlon Brando, the film version of A streetcar named Desire and the decision to cast Vivian Leigh in the leading role instead of Jessica Tandy who had played it on the New York stage, playing real people instead of fictional characters, the difficulty for actors moving from a stage role to a movie version, problems encounted with local people while on location making the films On the waterfront and Baby Doll, acting in motion pictures, directing the films Time limit and The hanging tree, working with director Alfred Hitchcock in I confess, trying to avoid being type-cast, acting in the films One eyed jacks, The great impostor, and Fear strikes out, working with director Mervyn LeRoy in the movie Gypsy, his father and his habit of inserting his family name, Sekulovich, into all his films, working with retired General Omar Bradley while making the film Patton, and movie making today compared to the Hollywood studio system of his early career.
