Summary
  • Opens with introductory remarks by Alan J. Pally, including quotations from actress Julie Harris' correspondence with Lillian Gish.
  • Actors Barnard Hughes and Julie Harris each begin with personal reminiscences of Lillian Gish. After speaking of Ms. Gish's friendship with Eugene and Carlotta O'Neill, they read from her correspondence with the O'Neills. After providing more background information, notably a description by Ms. Harris of her own visit with Sean and Eileen O'Casey in their later years, they read from correspondence between Ms. Gish and the O'Caseys, then read several scenes from Sean O'Casey's play Within the gates.
  • Following the production credits, the program concludes with several musical selections, including works featured in Sean O'Casey's play Within the gates, sung by Robert White, accompanied by pianist Robert Markham. The initial portion of the musical section of the program was not taped.
