"120 Jahre nach der abenteuerlichen Payer-Weyprecht-Expedition folgte ein ORF-Team den Spuren jenes österreichischen Beitrages zur Arktisforschung, der zur Entdeckung von Franz Josefs-Land geführt hatte. Damals wie heute nahm das Polarschiff Admiral Tegetthoff eine zentrale Rolle ein. Für die TV-Dokumentation 'Arktis Nordost' wurden zwei Modelle des Admiral Tegetthoff gebaut, deren Herstellung von einer Gruppe Wiener Modellbauer durchgeführt bzw. maßgeblich unterstützt wurde ... In einem historischen Teil wird ein Überblick der Polarforschung bis ins 19. Jahrhundert gegeben, wobei die Payer-Weyprecht-Expedition von 1872-1874 ausführlich beschrieben wird. Einen weiteren Schwerpunkt des Buches stellt die Beschreibung des Modellbaues des Admiral Tegetthoff im Maßstab 1:20 dar. Die Takelung der Filmkulisse sowie eine Einführung in die Takelkunde vervollständigen das Buch. Mehr als 350 Illustrationen und einzigartige Zeichnungen, die großteils von W. Meischl angefertigt wurden, heben das Werk von bisherigen Publikationen ab"--Back cover.
