- Summary
- Actor and former Chair of the National Endowment for the Arts Jane Alexander discusses her career, beginning with her lifelong interest in theatre, her education, and her early professional experiences, including Howard Sackler's play The great white hope, in which she co-starred with James Earl Jones, and the television mini-series Eleanor and Franklin, in which she portrayed Eleanor Roosevelt. Ms. Alexander discusses at length her 1993-7 tenure at the National Endowment for the Arts, and also touches on the related issues of arts funding, the possible establishment of a national theater, and the potential for women to hold high governmental positions. A question and answer session follows the discussion.
