- Description
- 1 videocassette (VHS) (67 min.) : sd., col. SP; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- The life and career of lighting designer Abe Feder is celebrated in this program, first through a slide presentation narrated by Mr. Feder's longtime business associate LaVerne Rosen, then with a lecture and brief demonstration by Mr. Feder himself. The slides present an array of lighting projects covering many years, including The Federal Theatre Project's Doctor Faustus (1937), directed by and starring Orson Welles, My fair lady (1956), Camelot (1960), and other shows, and also depict Mr. Feder's move from strictly theatrical lighting to a wider variety of civic architectural projects in New York and elsewhere, including the United Nations headquarters, the public art of Rockefeller Center, the runway at John F. Kennedy International Airport, White House events, and buildings in Georgia, South Carolina, and Israel. Mr. Feder's talk touches on personal as well as technological highlights from his career, culminating in a display of historic electric light fixtures, and discussion of the innovations represented by each.
