- Summary
- Tribute is paid to Tennessee Williams through a look at some of his lesser known works. Actor Cherry Jones introduces a series of rare 1948 recordings of Williams reading his poetry and carousing with friends, and later performs monologues from three Williams plays, A lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur, Clothes for a summer hotel, and Orpheus descending. Literary agent Mitch Douglas, who represented Tennessee Williams for several years, reads an essay he wrote, entitled Tennessee Williams' New Orleans, in which he compares the personal eccentricities of Mr. Williams with those of William Faulkner, finding several points of similarity between the two authors. Mr. Douglas also reads Life story, a poem by Mr. Williams. Ms. Jones and Mr. Douglas read selections from Mr. Williams' correspondence, written primarily to producer Cheryl Crawford, much of it concerning his plays The rose tattoo and Sweet bird of youth, and an exchange of letters between Mr. Williams, director Elia Kazan, and scenic designer Jo Mielziner.
