- Portrait of Lillian Russell dressed for her role of Marton in La Cigalle, produced by the Lillian Russell Opera Comique, music by Edmond Audran, English version by F. C. Burnand and music by Ivan Caryll, based on Henri Chivot and Alfred Duru's La cigale et la fourmi [The grasshopper and the ant] from Jean de La Fontaine's fable of the same name.

- The operetta was performed extensively in the United States, including at the Garden Theatre, New York, N.Y., Oct. 26, 1891-Feb. 13, 1892, the Globe Theatre, Boston, Mass., Feb. 15-Mar. 5, 1892, the Columbia Theatre, Chicago, Ill., Mar. 14-Apr. 9, 1892, two theaters in Philadelphia, Penn., May 9-21, 1982, the Park Theatre, Brooklyn, N.Y., May 23-28, 1892, a national tour between Sept. and Oct., 1892, the Garden Theatre, New York, Dec. 26, 1892-Jan. 10, 1893, and the summer of 1893 at Columbia Theatre, Chicago.
- Sarah Bernhardt attended the second performance of the operetta and the next day, according to Russell, sent the singer a hand-written copy of the La Fontaine fable upon which it was based.
