Description
1 p.l., [xliii-]xliv, (1)46-181 p.; 12mo.
Subject
  • United States. Constitutional Convention (1787)
  • Constitutions > United States > 1787 Convention > Contempory comment
Note
  • Contains letters 6-18, Dec. 25, 1787 to Jan. 25, 1788, signed "The Federal farmer." Paging continuous with the first five letters, published in 1787 under title: "Observations leading to a fair examination of the system of government proposed by the late convention ... in a series of letters from the Federal farmer to the Republican."
  • Although the prefatory Advertisement is dated Jan. 30, 1788, the publication was not advertised in the newspapers until May, the first notice appearing in the New-York Packett of Samuel and John Loudon for Friday, May 2, 1788. An Advertisement and recommendation appear in Thomas Greenleaf's New-York Journal and Weekly Register for Thursday, May 8, 1788 ... Mr. Lee was in New York city during October, 1787, when letters 1-5 were written, but he returned to Virginia at the beginning of November. It is possible, therefore, that this continuation was printed at Richmond, although it may have been done at New York.
