- Summary
- Chronicles the efforts of Vi Hilbert, a 77-year-old Upper Skagit elder, to ensure the survival of her people's language and traditions. Today there are fewer than a dozen people who are fluent in Lushootseed, the ancient language of the Skagit tribe in the Puget Sound area. Hilbert tells stories, converses with her cousin Floyd Williams, gathers cedar bark for basket making, and talks about her family history.
