  • Mounted on both sides of linen strip and folded to form 56 leaves. Enclosed in wooden case inlaid with abalone shell; title "Codex Madrid" embossed in silver on front cover, monogram "HML" on back cover.
  • Photographed from the original in the Museo arqueológico nacional, Madrid, for Mr. William E. Gates, and presented by him to Mr. Harry Miller Lydenberg.
  • Includes both the Codex Cortesianus (p. 1-21, 57-77) and the Codex Troano (p. 22-56, 78-112) which form parts of a single codex at some early time separated into two sections and now sometimes called the Codex Tro-Cortesianus. cf.
