- Summary
- Martha Clark and Joyce Chopra discuss their work together on the film Martha Clarke, light and dark: a dancer's journal. Clark discusses her background up to and including the film production, describing her work with Alison Chase and Pilobolus at Dartmouth College; Pilobolus' move to a studio at Wickham Rise School and then to Clark's home. Chopra describes her partnership with Clark and her ambitions for the film. Clark and Chopra discuss the evolution of Crowsnest Dance Company; Clark's working relationships with Felix Blaska, Linda Hunt and Robby Barnett; Clark's The Garden of Villandry and Nocturne; and Clark contrasts the dance companies Crowsnest and Pilobolus. Both describe their artistic intentions and challenges in making the film, including film choices, communicating with dancers and keeping a fresh perspective.
