"Present[s] ... the text of Billardon de Sauvigny's Histoire naturelle des dorades de la Chine (Paris, 1780) and ... a Notice (or Mémoire) sent from Peking a few years before, on which Billardon de Sauvigny based his book, together with translations into English"--Pref.
The original Notice, whose author is not known, is extant. A copy, preserved in the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris, has title: Kin-yu, ou, Poisson doré dorade de Chine. The original Chinese scroll (also preserved in the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle) which accompanied the Notice is reproduced on a folded sheet as the frontispiece to this work.
