Summary
In her 85th year, dancer-choreographer Jane Dudley reflects upon death, the physical challenges of aging, and the "emotional reservoir" that comes with age. She looks back at her career as a dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, her choreography, and her move to London to head a training program based on Graham technique. She recalls her parents and their nurturing of their daughters, and her own conflicts between motherhood and dancing. Dudley's memories are interspersed with dance footage: archival footage of a performance by her and two members of the Martha Graham Dance Company, shot in 1938 ; a sequence of still photographs of her solo Harmonica breakdown ; and present-day dances, including two solos performed in a chair, and duets with Frank Bock.
