- Summary
- Biography of dancer-choreographer Bob Fosse, with commentaries and assessments by friends, colleagues, and reviewers. Among the topics covered are his childhood dance training in Chicago ; his early performing experience in burlesque ; his partnerships with and marriages to Mary Ann Niles and Joan McCracken ; his first success as choreographer of the musical Pajama game ; his choreography for Damn Yankees, and the beginning of his enduring relationship with Gwen Verdon, later his wife and mother of his daughter Nicole ; his films Sweet Charity and Cabaret ; Ann Reinking's ascendancy as his muse ; the many autobiographical elements of his film All that jazz. Dance excerpts include Fosse's solo in the "Alleycats" dance from My sister Eileen, and the "Steam heat" number from Pajama game. Fosse is also seen on the set of the film Sweet Charity, which he directed and choreographed.
