Summary

Unedited footage of an interview recorded by Landseer Films (Ross MacGibbon) for Rudolf Nureyev, variations on an enigma, a promotional video commissioned by Christie's in connection with two auctions of Rudolf Nureyev's collections, held in New York in January 1995 and in London in November 1995. In this video, Lord Snowdon, who made his name as the professional photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones, describes Nureyev as a photographic subject, dancer, and private person. He particularly recalls photographing Nureyev for Life Magazine in Vienna, during Nureyev's staging of Swan lake. He also discusses Nureyev's physical attractiveness onstage and off ; the reciprocal benefits of his partnership and friendship with Margot Fonteyn ; the working relationship of both dancers to the choreographer Frederick Ashton ; and Nureyev's place in history.
