Edited by Thomas Clark, an American poet and poetry editor, at age 22, of The Paris Review.
Clark began editing Once [etc.] after leaving Cambridge University for the recently established University of Essex Literature Department. He published in Once the submissions for The Paris Review which he deemed unsuitable for publication there.
