Summary
In a session described on tape as the last of three, Dorothy Bird reminisces about Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, José Limón, Beatrice Seckler, Helen Tamiris, Eugene Loring, Louis Horst, Sophie Maslow, and others with whom she worked in the 1930s and 40s. She also discusses dancing at Bennington College. She teaches movement sequences based on exercises and choreography of the time. Among the dance works she recalls are Limón's Concerto grosso and Eden tree ; a solo to the song "Ef I had a ribbon bow," choreographed for her by Humphrey ; the musical Park Avenue, originally choreographed by Loring, who was replaced by Tamiris ; and numerous works by Graham, including Panorama, Horizons, Frontier, Four casual developments, Adolescence, Moment rustica, Course, Dithyrambic, and Intégrales. In part of the session she discusses various visual artists, displaying pictures that do not always appear on camera.
