Summary
Librettist Peter Stone discusses the musical 1776, for which he wrote the book, with Theater talk co-hosts Michael Riedel and Susan Haskins. Among the topics covered: the historical research required to write a play set in 18th century America; Mr. Stone's collaboration with composer Sherman Edwards; and the political censorship imposed on the film version of 1776 at the behest of then-President Richard Nixon. Mr. Stone also discusses his work on the Broadway musical Titanic.
