  • Speech by Frederic Franklin, introduced by Mignon Furman and preceded by a brief video clip of Gaité parisienne. In an account enlivened by many anecdotes, he recalls how he started to study ballet and traces his performing career from its beginnings. Among the subjects discussed are Mistinguett, Wendy Toye, Anton Dolin, Leonide Massine, Alexandra Danilova, touring the U.S. with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, performing Valerie Bettis's Streetcar Named Desire with the Slavenska-Franklin Ballet, forming the National Ballet in Washington, D.C., working with George Balanchine on Jeu de cartes and Song of Norway, reviving ballets for American Ballet Theatre. A question-and-answer session follows. The tape closes with ca. 5 min. of candid footage.
