- Summary
- SUMMARY: Ms. De Mille describes the first time that Aaron Copland played the music for Rodeo for her with Leonard Bernstein as the page turner; her style of working with various composers and the process of creating Rodeo. David Baker describes his working process with De Mille. De Mille discusses working with Morton Gould on Fall River legend, and plays a recording its prologue and waltzes. [Brief break for weather and commercials.] Robert Sherman reads a statement by De Mille regarding her new company Heritage Dance Theater and asks her to discuss her philosophy and plans regarding this company; De Mille describes how the company was put together and the response they have achieved; she introduces a segment of music from her work Texas fourth, played on piano by David Baker. [A brief news and commercial break; Sherman announces the National Ballet production of Sleeping Beauty.] Discussion of Heritage Dance Theatre continues, including the issue of funding and the company's repertory. David Baker plays the finale of Texas fourth; De Mille describes her piece The banjo. Tape ends after Banjo's playing by David Baker is introduced.
