Summary

Individual and group portraits, and some production stills, of actress Ruby Dee. Collection consists of studio portraits and candid shots of Dee, many used for publicity purposes, that are undated but probably span her career, ca. 1940s-1970s; a view of Dee at the celebration of her 90th birthday, held at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, in Harlem, New York City (2012); a motion picture still featuring Dee from the film "Countdown at Kusini" (1976); an unidentified television still featuring Dee and Sharon Johnson (n.d.); a candid shot of Dee, with actresses Isabelle Cooley and Yvonne Machen, who all performed the title role in different tour productions of "Anna Lucasta" (ca. 1946-1947); an undated view of Dee, with actors Nat Polen and Frederick O'Neal, reading for the radio play "Code Duello" on the CBS Radio program "Indictment"; an undated view of Dee with a group of students during her visit to her alma mater, Wadleigh Junior High School, in Harlem, New York; a group portrait of Dee, with the principal of Harriet B. Stowe Junior High School and a school district superintendent, receiving a Woman of the Year citation (1962); an group portrait of Dee with Harry Belafonte and C. Eric Lincoln, and two unidentified group portraits.
