- Discusses the history of England's Royal Ballet, then known as the Sadler's Wells Ballet, beginning with it's 1945 move to the Royal Opera House. Topics include: long-time director Ninette de Valois, the company's opening production of Sleeping beauty, conductor Constant Lambert's and administrator David Webster's roles in developing the company in its new theater, the company's performance style, Sol Hurok's presentation of the company in its first American tour in 1949, dancer Margot Fonteyn, Frederick Ashton's choreography for the company, Serge Grigoriev's mounting of the ballet Firebird in 1954, the company's name change from Sadler's Wells Ballet to Royal Ballet in Oct. 1956, the dance partnership between Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, choreographers Kenneth MacMillan and John Cranko, de Valois' retirement in 1963 and her continued involvement with the company and school.
