- The handmade papers of Japan was originally published in 4 v.: Rutland, Vt. : C.E. Tuttle Co., 1952. The present reprint (p. 49-197) includes notes by Henry Morris of the Bird & Bull Press, previously unpublished material by T.K. Tindale, and paper samples not included in the original work, supplied from Tindale's collection by his son Andrew Tindale.
- "The illustrations on the half-titles to each volume were drawn by Richard Flavin and appeared originally in Nagashizuki, by Timothy Barrett, Bird & Bull Press, 1979. The illustrations which precede Kamisuki taigai and A papermaking village, are derived from two of the stencilled endpapers by Keisuke Serizawa in the original volumes. The lettering on Tindale's obituary and on the woodcut frontispiece is by Tetsu-Zan, and means 'the beauty of Japanese paper.' The paper used for the various half-titles is either Thai Kozo, Unryu, or handmade Sekishu. The paper used for the frontispiece is Zerkall Ingres"--Page facing colophon.
- The frontispiece is a 5-col. full-page woodcut by Wesley W. Bates.
- The original work includes introd. by Dard Hunter (p. 56-61); "A papermaking village," photographic essay on papermaking in Kuzumura in the Yoshino district of Nara Prefecture, by Francis Haar (p. [79-110]); "Kamisuki taigai" (General outline of papermaking), col. facsim. reproduction of an illustrated ms. dated 1784, by Morihide Nyudo Shuken Kizaki (Morisue Kizaki), with English translation by Kinichiro Kanazashi (p. [123]-141); and "A bibliographical guide for students of Japanese handmade papers, by Bunsho Jugaku" (p. 142-148).
