Summary
Benefit performance for the Actors' Fund of America, with introductory remarks by the AFA's executive director Joe Benincasa. The performance celebrates both The threepenny opera and Off-Broadway producer Lucille Lortel (1900-1999), whose production of the show ran for seven years (1954-61) at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, then known as the Theatre de Lys. This 'concert' version of The threepenny opera features all of its songs and selected excerpts from the libretto, delivered by actors in contemporary clothes. Several of the performers were in the original Lortel production, including William Duell, who delivers the expository passages which link the scenes.
