- Summary
- Biography of American entrepreneur and showman P.T. Barnum (1810-1891) focuses on his life and career prior to his entry into circus management in the 1870s. The emphasis is on Barnum's promotion of the careers of the midget Charles "Tom Thumb" Stratton and singer Jenny Lind, his management of the American Museum in New York City, his political career during the Civil War and afterward, and his role in various commercial frauds (or "humbugs").
