Introductory remarks [including screening of silent film; ca. 6 min. total]; Johnson [ca. 19 min.], Sloan [ca. 20 min.], and Sampson [ca. 24 min.]. Each speaks, in turn, about the history, content, and context of early minstrel shows. [Recording ends abruptly and continues on disc no. 14 (ca. 23 min.); disc no. 14 includes screening of film with sound, ca. 10 min.]

The cassettes from which the Dance Black America festival were preserved contain gaps, abrupt starts and stops, unrelated material, and material that is out of sequence. In addition, the audibility, especially of questions taken from the audience, is often poor.
