- (62 min.) Following an introduction by Gigi Yellen, George Balanchine speaks to the National Press Club and responds to questions from the audience. Balanchine discusses the growing interest in ballet; his preference for tall, thin dancers; the future of ballet; the possibilities for dancers who have completed college dance programs and dance conservatories to join ballet companies; the strictness of a young dancer's training and its effect on the dancer; the equality within his ballet company, and whether stars like Rudolf Nureyev, Natalia Makarova and Mikhail Baryshnikov will dance with the New York City Ballet; the star power of Rudolf Nureyev; the Carter administration's relations with the Soviet Union; dance in relation to politics; Russian of American ballet.
