- "Synopsis: Menashe, an old Jew, who clings to all the traditions of the past, bitterly opposes the marriage of his granddaughter Lilie to a young Gentile, Judge Frunza. Lilie's parents standing in awe of their old father also withhold their consent. The girl determined to marry the Judge goes to his house. Old Menashe follows her there, and in the name of her God and her foresaken nation begs her to return home. Lilie refuses. This refusal is too great a shock for the old man. With a curse on his lips, he falls dead, a victim to the spirit of the new generation".
- [Our task: We work for the creation of a Jewish 'People's Theater', which shall be an institution of the people for the people; a temple of art and aesthetic pleasure. We work for the development and improvement of the taste of the Jewish masses, for art, literature and drama, through learned lectures, literary evenings and theatrical performances of the work of the best classical and modern writers.]
