Summary

Interview with Canadian filmmaker Philippe Baylaucq, who discusses his film Lodela in relation to Norman McLaren's pioneering dance film Pas de deux. The interview is presented in three parts, intercut with full, uninterrupted footage of Pas de deux (beginning at ca. 6 min. into the tape) and Lodela (beginning at ca. 23 min.). Topics discussed by Baylaucq include McLaren's innovations and influence ; his own working process in Lodela ; the sources of inspiration for Lodela ; how his background as a sculptor has shaped his approach to filmmaking.
