  • Cassette 1 (ca. 90 min.). Dec. 30, 2000 in Santa Fe, N.M. at the home of Marilyn Hunt. Jaffe discusses her first dance experiences; becoming serious about ballet; her family life; her technique; joining American Ballet Theatre; the support of Mikhail Baryshnikov in her career; finding herself as a performer and person; changes in her position in the company and in ABT as a whole under different directors; approaching her roles as an actor; analyzes the roles of Manon and Odette/Odile; working with Hugh Laing; ballet's meaning for her; her relationship to the audience and to the music; working with conductors, in particular Paul Connelly.
  • Cassette 2 (ca. 30 min.). Jaffe discusses Baryshnikov's productions at American Ballet Theatre and her admiration of his vision; her own response to Ballet Theatre's programming; working with Jiri Kylian; Twyla Tharp and the creation of How near to heaven.
  • Cassette 3 (ca. 90 min.) May 18, 2001 in New York City. Jaffe discusses her experiences working with Mark Morris; her interpretation of Giselle; injuries; psychological aspects of being a performer; her admiration for Marcia Haydée; the character of Tatiana in Onegin; she reads from Pushkin's poem; her health; turning points in her life; her interest in alternative health issues; reflects on her carreer and current priorities. [Interview breaks and resumes on 6/11/01 in New York City. The remainder of the interview has intermittent audio difficulties with some sections nearly inaudible. Transcriber worked with interviewer and interviewee to decipher these sections.] Her thoughts on Mikhail Baryshnikov both personally and professionally; Baryshnikov's production of Swan lake; her difficult partnership with Andris Liepa.
  • Cassette 4 (ca. 20 min.). Discussion of Swan Lake and Liepa continues; the effect of Baryshnikov's directorship on American Ballet Theatre; compares Baryshnikov and Kevin McKenzie's directing styles; McKenzie's influence on her.
