Summary
Documentary about the Double Dutch Divas, a group of African American women who are practitioners and performers of double dutch rope skipping. The women, many of them in their forties with familial and occupational responsibilities, discuss the origins of the group (originally called Jump Sister Jump) and its impact upon their lives. The benefits they cite include a sense of empowerment, a physical outlet, friendship and a sense of belonging, stress relief, physical fitness, and a means of expressing their personalities. They are seen warming up, practicing, and performing, usually outdoors, in demonstrations that often draw in adult and child members of the audience. In addition to group members, commentators include Vy Higginsen, founder of Jump Sister Jump, and ethnomusicologist Kyra D. Gaunt.
