Summary
Playwright, director and novelist David Mamet is interviewed in a New York tavern by Melvyn Bragg. Mamet discusses his recent play Oleanna, the controversy it provoked, and the challenges of turning the play into a film. He also discusses the differences between writing for the stage and for the screen, film acting, his writing process, and his first novel, The village. Excerpts from Mamet's films Oleanna and Homicide, and from his play The cryptogram, are shown. Scenes from Mamet's novel The village were staged for this program.
