- Summary
- Germaine Acogny discusses her artistic career and her most recent piece, Tchouraï, in the light of her belief that one must remain true to oneself and one's own cultural roots while being open to multi-cultural and multi-racial influences. Among the topics she discusses are the definition of the contemporary; the role of technique, and the distinction between technique and style; her collaboration with choreographer Sophiatou Kossoko on Tchouraï; the symbolic meanings attached to Tchouraï, and the audience's reception of the piece; L'Ecole des Sables, the training center she has founded in Toubab Dialaw with Helmut Vogt; her sense of the artist as interpreter; and her place in African modern dance. Her performance of Tchouraï is recorded on *MGZIA 4-6795 Germaine Acogny and Vincent Sekwati Koko Mantsoe.
