- Dame Alicia Markova coaches dancers of the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris in roles she formerly danced in five ballets: Le chant du rossignol [The song of the nightingale], Casse-noisette [The nutcracker], Giselle, La belle au bois dormant [The sleeping beauty], and Les sylphides. Her remarks include her reminiscences of various personalities associated with the ballets. Her own interpretations of some of the roles are seen in archival footage.

- Casse-noisette [The nutcracker]. Sugar Plum Fairy variation / choreography, Marius Petipa; music, Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky; danced by Emilie Cozette. Markova teaches the version staged in the west by Nikolai Sergeev. In archival footage, she is seen dancing this variation on an outdoor stage in 1942.
- Giselle. Giselle's Act I variation / choreography, Jules Perrot, Jean Coralli; music, Adolphe Adam; danced by Laetitia Pujol. Markova teaches the version staged by Sergeev. She reminisces about Anna Pavlova and Olga Spessivtzeva, and is seen dancing the variation in a film shot in 1952.
- La belle au bois dormant [The sleeping beauty]. Princess Florine's variation, Act III / choreography, Marius Petipa; music, Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky; danced by Nolween Daniel. Markova teaches this variation from the Bluebird pas de deux as it was taught to her by Lubov Egorova.
