- Summary
- Robbins works with Morton Gould on the music for Variations on I'm old fashioned. Gould talks about the difficulties of artistic collaboration, and his own willingness to change his compositions. He plays one of the variations on the piano while Robbins runs a videotape of a New York City Ballet studio rehearsal (see *MGZIA 4-6050) of a pas de deux by Christopher D'Amboise and Darci Kistler that was cut from the final version of the ballet. At the end of the tape Gould prepares to play a new variation he has composed. He plays the variation on *MGZIA 4-6156.

- Variations on I'm old fashioned is a ballet tribute to Fred Astaire, with music by Morton Gould, based on Jerome Kern's song I'm old fashioned, from the motion picture You were never lovelier (Columbia, 1942). The ballet premiered on June 16, 1983.
- This tape is one of 36 made between Sept. and Nov. 1982 for a projected documentary on the making of I'm old fashioned. DeWitt Sage, Joel Gold and John Goberman were involved in the project, which was never produced.
