- Summary
- Teachers give lessons in the Japanese tea ceremony to members of the American Theatre Laboratory. The tape begins with a demonstration of the basic tea ceremony, with one of the teachers as host and Jerome Robbins as guest. Afterwards Robbins talks to the teachers about details of the ceremony. Two lessons in the ceremony follow, the first with Erin Martin as host and Leonard Frey as guest, the second with Barbara Monte as host. The students are taught how to enter, prepare and serve tea, wash utensils and exit.

- American Theatre Laboratory was created in 1966 by Jerome Robbins, with a $300,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The experimental theater workshop rehearsed several projects and created many exercises, but did not produce any shows. Some of its work was influenced by Japanese Noh drama. American Theatre Laboratory disbanded in 1968.
