- Description
- 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (13 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- First part of the ballet, beginning with the solo of the manager in evening dress (also called the French manager), running until the acrobats' duet, which is incomplete. This tape was found in the collection of Rudolf Nureyev, who may have acquired it around March 1979, when he performed with the Joffrey Ballet in its Homage to Diaghilev program at the Mark Hellinger Theater in New York City. Nureyev danced in three of the four ballets on the program (Petrouchka, Le spectre de la rose, and L'après-midi d'un faune), but did not perform in Parade. His interest in Parade may have been connected with a commission to stage a version of the ballet for New York's Metropolitan Opera in fall 1980; however, he subsequently withdrew from this project because of "irreconcileable differences" with the Met's production director John Dexter.
