- [Begins abruptly; audio quality is uneven.] Following inaudible comments by author Martin Gottfried, Jerome Robbins discusses working with choreographer Bob Fosse on The pajama game (1954), including revising and restaging the musical numbers and Robbins' role as show doctor, Fosse's adjustment to staging musical numbers and how he and Fosse worked together. Robbins discusses his work with Fosse in Bells are ringing (1956); their friendship and opening night ritual; influence of dancer Gwen Verdon, choreographer Jack Cole and Robbins himself on Fosse's career; the influence of Fosse's jazz dance background on his choreography; the various role models for choreographers; the choreographic process [inaudible comments]; how a choreographer conceives of dances and works with scripts; Robbins' work as show doctor for Funny girl (1964); Robbins fondness for Fosse; the choreographers Robbins admires; Robbins use of programs to conduct research on his shows; the influence of dancer Joan McCracken on Fosse's career; her dancing in Robbins' show Billion dollar baby (1945) [tape ends abruptly].
