Summary

In the 16th century Spanish conquistadores explored South America's Amazon region in search of gold. A modern expedition retraces that route to search out the history and culture of this remote area of the world. Journeying deep into the rain forests, it uncovers little-known facts about the indigenous people and wildlife and medicinal herbs in the vegetation. The program stresses the need to prevent encroachment on the delicate ecology.
