- Summary
- [Begins abruptly.] In an interview conducted for the television program, An evening of Jerome Robbins' ballets, interviewer Brendan Gill begins by discussing the format and content of the program. Robbins comments on the esthetics of dance as seen on television; the influence of dance on contemporary athletes; his use of videotape; how dancing will be portrayed on the program; the narrative quality of dance; the critical analysis of dance; the creation of dance in comparison with music; George Balanchine's choreography; the preservation of choreography and the loss of such ballets as Swan lake and Giselle. Robbins compares his recent revival of Fancy free (1944) at New York City Ballet with American Ballet Theatre's version; the relationship of dance to music and the choreography of his ballet Moves (1959) without music; the creation of the musical score in relation to the choreographic process and his use of commissioned scores; Balanchine's work with composer Igor Stravinsky; the effect of dance on the perception of musical duration; his concerns about the effect of commercial interruptions on his work and his interest in doing a program for network television [ends abruptly].

- On July 2, 1980, WNBC-TV telecast the second program in its series, Live from studio 8H, entitled An evening of Jerome Robbins' ballets. The program was produced by Alvin Cooperman and Judith De Paul. It featured five of Robbins' ballets performed by members of the New York City Ballet.
