[Contains extraneous noise.] In a letter to author Robert Graves, Robbins discusses the problems choreographing Graves' ballet scenario on Dionysus; his objectives for non-literal expression in his choreography; the failure of his effort to stage a dramatic play on Broadway (Mother Courage and her children, 1963); the success of his ballet Les noces (1965) and his feelings about his work on that ballet; more on Graves' scenario and Robbins' excitement with Graves' ideas on ritual and myth; more on his interest in Dionysian ritual and his desire to do a ballet based on the Villa of Mysteries at Pompeii; work with actors at the American Theatre Laboratory on improvised scenes inspired by Noh theatrical concepts and Dionysian ritual; his interest in Noh plays and their significance to him; closing comments and offer of assistance to Graves; more on the inspiration he finds in Graves' books; more on his interest in Noh theater and its effect on his choreography. In a letter to author Donald Keene, (ca. 22 min. into recoring) Robbins discusses his possible visit to Japan to study and view Noh theater; his research and deep interest in Noh and the importance of Keene in his efforts to understand Noh; Keene's book on Noh, possibly Nō, the classical theater of Japan (Tokyo: Kodansha International, 1966); closing comments.
