- Summary
- Documentary exploring the Balinese belief in three co-existing realms (gods, humans, demons) which must be balanced through art and religion. Examples drawn from literature, history, agriculture, and the performing arts (the last including Gambuh, the Balinese classical drama, and wayang, or shadow puppetry) illustrate how art and religion permeate Balinese culture. The final segment depicts the 1979 celebration of Eka Desa Rudra, a temple festival held only once in a hundred years, in which a series of ceremonies is performed in an effort to restore the balance between the forces of growth and those of destruction.
