Segment one: The today show, aired Channel 4, May 25, 1988, 7:00 a.m. Jane Pauley interviews actors Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller about their respective roles in Romeo and Juliet and Much ado about nothing at the New York Shakespeare Festival.
Segment two: 1988 Tony awards, aired Channel 2, June 5, 1988, 9:00 p.m. Announcement of the nominees for best featured actress in a play, including Kate Nelligan for Caryl Churchill's play Serious money, which first ran off-Broadway at the Public Theater and was produced on Broadway by the New York Shakespeare Festival and Joseph Papp.
Segment three: Channel two news, aired June 8, 1988, 5:00 p.m. Jill Rappaport reports on the memorial for actor George Rose at the Shubert Theater. Brief footage of the memorial, including a song by actor Maureen McGovern and a speech by actor Jack Gilford. Brief segment from interview with actor Howard McGillin.
Segment four: Broadway magazine, aired June 8, 1988, 10:30 p.m. Host David Anthony reviews the production of Romeo and Juliet at the Public Theater. Brief segment from interview with actor Cynthia Nixon (Juliet), who speaks about her role. Brief segment from interview with Joseph Papp, who speaks about the New York Shakespeare Festival's Shakespeare Marathon, in which the entire canon is to be performed in six years by famous American actors. Performance footage, including Nixon, Peter MacNichol (Romeo), Anne Meara (Nurse), Milo O'Shea (Friar Lawrence), and Courtney B. Vance (Mercutio).
Segment five: Broadway magazine, aired June 8, 1988, 10:30 p.m. Edited footage from a segment on the Manhattan Theater Club, concerning the twentieth anniversary of the musical Hair, which was first produced by Joseph Papp. Brief performance footage, including the authors/lyricists, James Rado and Gerome Ragni.
Segment six: CNN news. Precise name of show and airdate unknown. Aired between February 16 and April 3, 1988. Cynthia Tornquist reports on the production of Julius Caesar at the Public Theater. Brief segments from interviews with actor John McMartin (Julius Caesar) about his role and with Joseph Papp about the Shakespeare Marathon. Performance footage including McMartin, Edward Herrmann (Cassius), Al Pacino (Marcus Antonius), and Martin Sheen (Brutus). Poor audio quality.
Segment seven: McCreary report, aired Channel 5, June 25, 1988, 9:00 a.m. Marian Etoile Watson interviews actor Bernard White about his role as Federico Garcia Lorca in the José Antonio Rial's play The death of Garcia Lorca, which opens Festival Latino 1988.
Segment eight: News, aired WXTV, Channel 41, Spanish International Network, June 29, 1988, 6:00 p.m. Review of The death of Garcia Lorca. Includes brief segments from interviews with director Carlos Gimenez and translator Julio Marzan. Performance footage, including Bernard White (Federico Garcia Lorca). In Spanish. Poor visual quality.
Segment nine: CBS this morning, aired Channel 2, July 5, 1988, 7:00 a.m. Harry Smith reports on the production of Much ado about nothing at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Segments from interview with actor Kevin Kline (Benedick). Brief segments from interview with actor Phoebe Cates (Hero). Kline discusses the production, and also his disappointment with the reception of his film Cry freedom. Brief footage of Kline and Denzel Washington in Cry freedom, as well as footage from some of Kline's other films. Brief rehearsal and performance footage, including Kline, Cates, and Blythe Danner (Beatrice).
