Summary

Brief takes of a stage production of the ballet, intercutting dress rehearsal, performance, and candid footage. The candid footage includes numerous close-ups of the dancers and their costumes. Most of the footage concentrates on Act I, including duets by Basilio and Kitri, and the dances of Espada, the street dancer, and the matadors. Only the dream scene of Act II is shown, with brief glimpses of the variations of Cupid, the dryad queen, and Kitri. Act III excerpts include Basilio's faked suicide in the tavern scene, and an ensemble dance and the grand pas de deux in the wedding scene, with emphasis on Nureyev's dancing.
