Summary
Documentary on the anti-fascist political cabaret Die Pfeffermühle [The Peppermill], much of it told through the reminiscences of a surviving company member, Magnus Henning. Its founder, Erika Mann, is heard in an interview recorded in 1968. The contributions of Therese Giehse, Lotte Goslar, Klaus Mann, Rudolf Nelson, and Sybille Schloss are recalled, as are the company's tours in Europe and its unsuccessful appearance in New York City in 1937. Henning plays and sings a selection of songs presented by the cabaret between 1933 and 1935.
